One Room Challenge – Weeks 3 and 4

I missed you all! I sat down to write down the accomplishments of week 3 of the ORC last week and realized I really didn’t have much to talk about. My goal was to get all the trim up around the windows and doors, the shoe molding installed, and the picture rail mounted, but damn it all, I just managed to strip the old paint from the moldings I had stored in the basement for the last seven years. I can’t even say I have enough done to share an interesting post of the collective weeks 3 and 4, beyond the completion of the paint stripping, priming, and partially installing trim around two of the windows.

Installing the trim properly is one of the most tedious tasks, but repairing and re-installing the original trim is deceptively worse. Our entire house is pretty much complete and only lacking trim… EVERYWHERE! This is also not a task I refuse to outsource or do with anyone’s help since I’m unwilling to cut corners. I want it done right which includes coping the corners instead of miter joints. I’m looking forward to sharing the step by step on coping since it’s the only way to get the perfectly professional corners and is also how these were originally installed. No caulking necessary if done right!

All I have to share with you are some pictures of the trim after a coat of primer and the first coat of paint (second coat of paint will go on once installed and nail holes are filled). Below those pictures, I *before* and *during* of the window trim.

I’ll be stringing to share greater progress during week five. These weeks sure are flying by! Until then, you can always watch my sporadic shenanigans @byrneburymanor, where I’ve decided to try and not take life too seriously, but maybe also share some tidbits of Craft-It-Yourself knowledge.

As usual, I’m always impressed with everyone’s accomplishments on the ORC blog. Truly inspired work!
